First Time Marchers – Parent Information

Letter to a Band Parent...

The following are some answers to questions new parents may have concerning our upcoming marching band season. Most of the information was discussed during the new marchers meeting held March, 5th.

Are parents allowed to go back to the busses after performances?

Absolutely! Parents are always welcome and needed to help!

Are we allowed to yell at the competitions?

Yes. However, please be mindful of comments made around other bands and when sitting in front of the press boxes, the judges may not be able to hear exactly what they need to if we are screaming too loudly.

Band Camp

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday – Mr. Hale stated would probably be from 8-4
Tuesday and Thursday – 8am – 8pm, with a one hour dinner break
---- Practice will be outside from 8-12, lunch from 12-11, 1-4 inside for sectionals
----· Band members may have a written note to walk to McDonald’s, etc. to eat or they may eat in the band room. They do not need to be picked up for lunch.
---- Clothes for band camp may not be revealing and marchers may only wear socks and tennis shoes, no flip flops or sandals
---- Students must have sunscreen, no tans are needed during this time
---- Hold students accountable – allow them to be aware of whether or not it is going go rain, i.e. do they need a coat?

Band Fees

Band fees are due one week before school is out. Checks should be made payable to Bourbon County Band Boosters.

Maturity

One parent asked if 7th graders were actually mature enough to be a part of the high school marching band. Several of the band students who were first timers last year have been very successful with their performances and should attribute that success to their part in the band.

Parent involvement is essential to the success of the marching band. Please know
help is needed in all areas and is very much appreciated.

There are most likely many more questions to be answered and will be added at a later date.
